August Return for Doctor Who!
News of the return of Doctor Who with Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvil, in series seven opener Asylum of the Daleks!
Can you believe it? We have not seen a new episode of Doctor Who since 2011. A lot has happened in TV since then: more sport than you can shake a hockey stick at, the Reichenbach Fall and the zombie-like continuation of Big Brother. Well, good news, Whovians: it will return in August.
The title of the first episode has been revealed: Asylum of the Daleks. The series opener will see the first appearance of the iconic villains for a fair while (although they have made cameo appearances since). According to Doctor Who Magazine, the episode will feature "more Daleks than ever, on the biggest set Doctor Who's ever had" and "every Dalek that the BBC Wales team has managed to lay its hands on"; former showrunner Russell T Davies even donated one of his.
Nicholas Briggs confirmed the news on Twitter:
"The title has been officially announced, so at last we can say it aloud: it was an absolute blast shooting Asylum of the Daleks!"
It will be shown at BFI Southbank in London on the 18th August, and should premiere a week later; it is also expected to appear at the Edinburgh International Television Festival a week after the BFI screening.
Even more Who news: Neve McIntosh has dismissed the rumoured return of her character, Madame Vastra. She played the Silurian in A Good Man Goes to War. The Daily Star reported she would return and become infatuated with new companion, Jenna-Louise Coleman. But, as she pointed out on Twitter, "we're talking about the Daily Star....".
So, because it's as good an excuse as any, here's the trailer for the new series of Doctor Who:
