Hunted preview

Hunted is a new espionage thriller and BBC/HBO co-production created by Kudos, the production company behind Spooks and Life on Mars, and the American TV writer/producer Frank Spotnitz (The X Files). It stars Melissa George (Home and Away, Alias, Dark City).
The BBC/HBO new espionage co-production hits TV screens next week and has a pedigree that most shows would die for. Developed by Kudos who previously created Spooks and produced by The X-Files writer/producer, Frank Spotnitz, Hunted is an instantly gripping proposition. Melissa George (ex Home and Away before moving onto American TV and film roles) takes the title role, playing Sam Hunter; a spy who is employed by the mysterious Byzantium organisation and show's she has come a long way since her kind-of similar role in Alias.

Going on the first episode we can expect lots of shaky-cam footage, chases and a plot that will take weeks to unravel as Hunter goes head to head with the unknown person or group who wants her dead. Impressively shot on what is clearly a larger-than-usual budget for home-grown TV, the show is clearly going to be given a significant push by the Beeb and with the HBO backing it's certainly in for a shot at returning for a second series if viewing figures impress.

Hunted is an occasionally po-faced show that takes it self a little to seriously, but it's also impressively gripping at the same time. There's no time for humour, this is the kind of dour, downbeat show we've come to expect from Kudos and it ticks all the boxes for a potential replacement for Spooks. The show also features performances from an impressive list of regular and occasional cast including Adam Rayner, Stephen Dillane and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.

Hunted starts on 4th October on BBC One at 9pm.
