Miranda: 3.06 - A Brief Encounter

Review of Miranda: "A Brief Encounter" from the BBC.
After a successful first two series, Miranda has kept up with a high standard of giggle-inducing moments for series three, culminating in this episode with a shocking cliff-hanger that no-one was expecting, least of all her!

Miranda tries to get over Gary by planning to go travelling, but other events keep preventing her from leaving. We see the usual array of ridiculous slapstick and one-liners, including an airport security mishap involving a belt and Miranda herself going through the baggage scanning machine, and a hilarious opening scene where we witness her rather acute individual coping mechanisms, definitely inviting a chuckle. There’s also a nice surprise appearance from Skins’ Luke Pasqualino, who performs well despite his character hotel employee Jason being a far cry from Skins’ dramatic rebel skater Freddie.

A great end to an up-to-scratch season, Miranda never fails to cheer up an evening, reminding many of us that we aren’t alone in the everyday awkward situations that we might find ourselves in – to some extent, anyway. Looking forward to some more feel-good gracelessness in the next series, and until then, we’ve always got her book to make us feel better.

Miranda has now finished, obviously. More info on the official BBC Miranda site, and the third series remains up on iPlayer for another week.
