Being Human: 5.01 - The Trinity - Spoiler Free Preview!

Spoiler-free preview of Being Human: The Trinity from BBC Three, starring Damien Molony, Michael Socha and Kate Bracken.
After their successful revamp (pun intended) last year, BBC Three's Being Human returns on Sunday! Now-old hands Hal (vampire, Damien Molony), Tom (werewolf, Michael Socha) and relative newcomer Alex (ghost, Kate Bracken) are the supernatural housemates now - can they pull off the difficult second year? Or will they attempt a superfluous change in their musical direction and end up producing self-indulgent bilge?

Well, we've seen the first episode in advance, so here's a few early hints. Don't worry, no spoilers.

  1. It's still fun! Earlier series of Being Human went gothic at times, but so far this is character-based and relatable, all the things that made last year so watchable.

  2. So far, Alex doesn't annoy me half as much as Annie did - here we see her having an understandable reaction to her new situation, and even getting a few good jokes in.

  3. And fans of both Hal threading the needle between angst and neuroses, or Tom's lovable puppy dog eyes, should find plenty to keep them happy. The very first scene (picking up on last year's climax) sets out their stall perfectly.

  4. If you were growing jaded about Being Human rolling out a new Big Vampire as the main nemesis every year, you might be pleasantly surprised. I'll say no more.

  5. On the other hand, if you were strongly attached to a certain regular location from the past, you might be a tad miffed.

  6. All told, there's a lot to chew on here, a surprising amount of material in fact, considering they only have six episodes to play it out. If it carries on at this pace, series five of Being Human will be one hell of a ride.

Being Human returns 10PM Sunday on BBC Three, more details on the official BBC Three Being Human website. Too soon?
