New Year Sherlock return confirmed by Steven Moffat

We reported yesterday that Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat's much-loved Sherlock adaptation was rumoured to be returning to BBC One on New Year's Day and now that exact thing has been confirmed. Wow, it's almost as if he reads the site and acts accordingly.

Which means that Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman will be back with us, solving mysteries and gazing longingly at each other, even sooner than you'd think. The news was delivered by executive producer Steven Moffat on his Twitter page, and he did it a little like this:



The rest of his tweet, of course, being a reference to the episodes: A Scandal in Belgravia (featuring the debut of Irene Adler), The Hound Of Baskerville and The Reichenbach Fall. The first episode was aired for press last night, and reception seems to have been universally positive.

So between that and festive Doctor Who, it's going to be a good few weeks for fans of Moffat's projects. Feel free to vent your excitement below.
