Skins to end next year

Popular E4 youth drama Skins will end on its seventh series in 2013.
Channel 4 have confirmed that popular teen drama Skins is ending after next year with its seventh series. Its final episodes will be broadcast in early 2013, and Channel 4 have promised that it was be a celebration of a truly iconic show.

The E4 drama debuted in January 2007 with 1.4 million viewers which was, at the time, the channelís highest rating domestic show, other than Big Brother.

Skins was created by father and son duo, Bryan Elsley and Jamie Brittain. It has been a great platform for young actors and writers, often making their debut on the show - the average age for the team of writers is 21. Skins has been applauded for its innovative use of social media advertising, and received praise from fans such as Queer as Folk and Doctor Who writer, Russell T Davies.

A Channel 4 spokeswoman said:

"Skins is a brilliant show which has defined a generation and will go down as a truly iconic, game-changing piece of television but after seven series it is time for E4 to make way for the next generation of the bold, the new and the innovative."

Skins is currently airing its sixth series every Monday at 10pm on E4.
