Sonequa Martin-Green cast as the lead in Star Trek: Discovery

Star Trek: Discovery has found it's lieutenant commander; Sonequa Martin-Green, best known for playing Sasha Williams in The Walking Dead has nabbed the lead role. Entertainment Weekly broke the news after months of speculation. The site also confirmed that Martin-Green will continue to play Sasha in The Walking Dead too, stopping any suggestion that she will meet a grizzly end any time soon.

This comes a couple of days after the announcement by Variety that the Star Trek series has cast three Klingon characters as Chris Obi, Shazad Latif, Mary Chieffo join thee show. Obi will play T’Kuvma, a Klingon leader seeking to unite the Klingon houses. Latif will play Kol, commanding officer of the Klingons and protégé of T’Kuvma. Chieffo will play L’Rell, the battle deck commander of the Klingon ship.

This follows the announcement that Doug Jones and Anthony Rapp have been cast as Starfleet officers on the USS: Discovery and Michelle Yeoh will play Starfleet Captain Georgiou aboard the Starship Shenzhou.

Star Trek: Discovery is finally starting to take shape as filming begins in January ahead of the release om CBS All Access in the US and Netflix here in the UK next May.
