Fargo season three adds David Thewlis and more to the cast

Fargo season three continues to add an impressive cast roster; on the back of the announcement last May that Ewan McGregor will play two roles in Fargo season three, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed more casting and details of the characters.

David Thewlis, best known as Professor Lupin in the Harry Potter movies, will play V.M. Vargas, a loner and true capitalist who delivers to Emmit, the Parking Lot King of Minnesota, the bad news that he has just become partners with his employers, whose business interests lay outside the law. Emit Stussy will be played by McGregor (who will also play his brother Ray).

Joining Thewlis and McGregor is Michael Stuhlbarg, playing Sy Feltz, Emmitís right-hand man and consigliere. Scoot McNairy will be playing Maurice LeFay, a stoner with a criminal past. Shea Whigham is taking on the role of Meeker County chief of police Moe Dammick, while Karan Soni will be playing scientist Dr. Homer Gilruth. Finally, Fred Melamed has been cast as Howard Zimmerman, a mover and a shaker with a knack for spinning a yarn and making a profit and and Thomas Mann as Thaddeus Mobley, an award-winning science fiction author.

The Hollywood Reporter also confirmed the role of previously cast actors; Carrie Coon will be playing Gloria Burgle, a practical woman who is the chief of police in Edna Valley and a newly divorced mother who struggles to understand this new world around her. Mary Elizabeth Winstead will be playing Nikki Swango, a crafty and alluring recent parolee with a passion for competitive bridge playing, and a woman with a plan who is focused on always being at least one move ahead of her opponents. Jim Gaffigan will be playing as a police deputy.

The third season is rumoured to take part in 2010, after the dramatic events of the Martin Freeman-helmed first season and will debut in the US in January 2017.
